I've had the oportunity to meet Chris's leiny parents on a few occasions now. Enough to know they are good people. Today Chris and I went to his parents place for mothers day. We arrived a little late for dinner but had a nice time. As we were getting ready to leave his mother noticed the sweatshirt he was wearing. It was for Midwest Bearfest. Her first question was "Oh, you're eating bear now?"As if it was a food festival that specialized in very rustic food. I took one look at Chris and started laughing. His father was also at hand so both of his parents started looking at us like we were nuts. His father trying to be helpful said that he had tried "bear jerky" which just got us snickering all the more. In an attempt to alleviate her confusion his mother decided to read more of what was on the shirt. Part of it says "fun, food, and furry friends.". She looks up at Chris and very innocently asks "furry friends?". More laughing on my part and Chris starts to get a little flustered saying "don't worry about it mom." We managed to leave with out much more of that. His parents know he's gay but he's never really explained the "bear" thing. Seeing Chris go that shade of red was so awesome.
